2:00 pm – Speaker Robert F. Bailey (Robb), Maryland Park Service Historian, will focus on the history of segregation in Maryland State Parks, with an emphasis on efforts by Civil Rights activists lawyers to desegregate  Sandy Point State Park. A discussion of other segregated parks in Maryland will also be included.    In Mr. Bailey’s words, “Maryland was one of the last states to create purposely built segregated facilities in its state parks and ended up providing the legal basis for ending the practice nationwide.”
