Illuminating Bear Creek’s Role in the Defense of Baltimore – Glenn Johnston – August 2025
For nearly two hundred years, the lion’s share of research regarding the Battle of North Point was focused on the military aspects of that engagement. Recent research, however, has added a layer of knowledge about the social history of Patapsco Neck at the time of the battle. The principal investigator for that research, Glenn T Johnston of Stevenson University, will speak about the outcomes of that three-year research effort. Funded by the National Park Service and undertaken by a blue-ribbon team of historians–both academic and community—the research effort focused on the people of Patapsco Neck, their communities, and the influence of Patapsco Neck’s geography on the defense of Baltimore in 1814.
